Brenda Lotito
Upstate Worm Farms was established by Brenda Lotito in 2001 to introduce and educate our communities about the recycling of food substances via the use of red worms. Training and consulting services are available to those interested in utilizing worms to reduce food waste while utilizing the compost medium produced.
Over 200 years ago, Charles Darwin noticed the effects of earthworms and their role on our Earth. Find out about studies being conducted on the use of earthworms in our soil as well as their use in the composting process of vegetable waste. Discover how vermicompost can be a gardeners delight; reducing irrigation costs, increasing drought resistance and increasing yields!

Renuka Rao
Dr. Rao is Director of the Soil Nutrient Analysis Laboratories at Cornell University. The Laboratories provide soil testing to New Yorkers who request it, whether they are operators of 1000-acre farms, lawn care specialists, or backyard gardeners. Soil tests vary in complexity—and cost—depending on the purpose for which they are needed. Even a basic test will guide you on how to fertilize and/or amend your soil in order to prevent problems associated with over- or under-fertilization. Such tests are available at nominal cost through each county's Extension Service. Soil testing eliminates the guesswork many gardeners face when deciding the kinds and amounts of fertilizers or soil amendments they should purchase and apply. Dr. Rao will give you information on the process and show you how to take samples properly. |
